Hi! My name is Dominic (you can call me Dom ;-)). Welcome to my site!
Several years ago, I decided that I needed to lose weight. I was carrying much more of it than I wanted to be, and I knew it had to go. Back then, I still believed that fat was the enemy – if I could just eat enough low-fat foods, I’d drop weight. I don’t think I even knew or cared what a carb was, except that it wasn’t fat (and therefore didn’t matter). Boy, have things changed since then!
As you might guess, my approach to weight loss back then was pretty unscientific – I figured that cutting as much fat from my diet as possible would be the best thing I could do (it’s not; it’s actually an awful idea), and if I threw in some time on the treadmill or the exercise bike, well hey, that could only help, right? Wrong.
Thankfully, these days I know a lot more than I did back then.
My goal with this blog is to teach you everything you need to know about living a low carb lifestyle – both the benefits and the drawbacks. I’m not going to pretend that it’s the only way to live, because it’s not – I just happen to believe that it can be a really useful tool for a lot of people.
So, what exactly is this site all about?
You want details, huh? Well, if this is the first page that you decided to check out, let me give you the rundown.
- I review low-carb diets. There are plenty of diets out there, so I try to provide you with an easy-to-understand breakdown of what the diet involves, how restrictive it is, what its good and bad points are, etc. Basically, I want you armed with as much relevant information as possible when deciding whether a particular diet is for you.
- I provide low-carb recipes. If you’re going low-carb for the first time, working out how to still cook delicious foods can be daunting – but not anymore! You’ll realise just how easy it can be to make delicious, filling, crowd-pleasing meals with very few carbs.
- I provide tips and tricks to help you live a low-carb life. This ranges from ways to stay motivated and avoid temptation, to substitutes for your favourite carby foods, to semi-essential tools for the kitchen.
- And, of course, I engage with my readers. No, seriously. If you have questions, or comments, or there’s a particular diet that you’d like me to review that I haven’t yet, drop me a line – email@example.com, or leave a comment on the site itself – I read them all, and I’ll respond promptly. Like I said, this site is all about educating you so that you can avoid making the same mistakes I did, so I’d love to hear from you if you think I could be doing it better!
A little more about me
I’m currently completing my PhD in Psychology (on self-control and motivation, which is why I get so interested about why some diets are so easy to stick to, and others aren’t),and I currently teach a number of undergraduate psych subjects (which I love!).
However, when I’m not nerding out at university, I spend a lot (too much, according to some people) of time practicing Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, or at the gym doing strength and conditioning for Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. As a regular BJJ competitor, I spend huge chunks of the year dieting to stay within my weight class (or occasionally trying to drop to a lower one), which is why I got so interested in diets and nutrition in the first place. Last year I cut down to 67kg (approximately 147lb) for the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Pan-Pacific championships – where I won my division. It’s my hope that this site will not only inform you, but, in sharing my own progress and goals, inspire you to be the best that you can be. Peace!
